The area is very beautiful and tranquil, fantastic for bike riding and walking, it is also a birdwatchers paradise; many herons, kingfishers and birds of prey. There is a fishing lake very nearby and a pony just up the lane.

Bedrooms:Bedroom 1 is large with a king size four poster bed.

Bedroom 2 is a good size and has 2 single beds with an extra bed when needed.

Bathrooms:
1 Bathroom which has a shower and a baby bath if required.

Kitchen:
The kitchen is very well equipped to be home from home including cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine, iron and board.

Living Rooms:
Lovely living room with an original stone wall, exposed beams and a small wood burning stove, also a TV with French satellite, a DVD player with a huge selection of DVDs. For the younger people there is also a PlayStation 2 with various games.

Many sporting activities in the area: basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, bocce, canoeing, fishing, etc...

A Cottage of One�s Own in Rural France
Our travels recently led us to southwestern France, where we had a great experience at Les G�tes Fleuris in the Dordogne region of the Aquitaine.
We thought we had taken a wrong turn as we drove up the dirt road, past chickens and horses and shirtless Frenchmen watering their flowers at 9 p.m. Then we saw the gorgeous farmhouses shown on the Web site, on top of a hill overlooking sprawling farmland and beautiful countryside.
We stayed in their Petite Rose house, a romantic and rustic one-bedroom cottage built in the 16th century. The list of amenities includes wireless Internet, a pool, hot tub, outdoor barbecue and patio, bicycles and ping pong.
The best resource, in our opinion, was the owners, Larry and Renata Barnes. They live in the main house with their two lovely daughters and are an amazing source of local knowledge. Renata, a former travel agent, gave us great tips on what to see and what not to see, and both were always good for sharing a glass of wine on the patio.
The town where the chateau is located was surprisingly untouched by time. The Bordeaux wine country is less than two hours away, but the best part of the area was the Dordogne River, where for a few euros you can take a leisurely, daylong canoe trip past castles and unbeatable scenery.
Weekly rates for Les G�tes Fleuris begin at 350 euros (about $440 US) per week.

We love our little house! The walls and ceiling are all natural wood, as is the sleeping mezzanine - all wood all around and a ceramic tile floor - the place has a lovely atmosphere. It�s also eco-friendly with biologic and non-toxic varnishes and insulation throughout and only biologic and non-toxic cleaning, laundry, etc. A wood burning stove completes the rustic feeling. (No worries as there's also electric heat.)

The price is reduced because we are still working on the house. It is completely and totally renovated but the finish work is not done and the outside is still rough. The kitchen walls are not painted and countertops are not tiled. The bathroom still has unfinished, partially cement walls. However the house is fully liveable and is a perfect house for a young couple or friends on a budget. Stay in an Arcachon beach bungalow for Christmas and New Year at a fraction of the going price!!

The place is small (35 sq m) but sleeps four. A double bed and and single bed on the mezzanine and a couch/bed downstairs (we provide all sheets and pillowcases), a fully functional kitchen (we provide all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware), a small sitting area (free internet/wifi, a good stereo, telephone with free local and international calls!), a large bathroom with bathtub (we provide all towels) and brand new washing machine , a little garden (eat our herbs and salads). We even have 2 bicycles you can rent. Just bring your clothes and enjoy!

ahhh the Food! Parisians say �you�ll eat well in the Perigord�! This little corner of Southwest France is home to the black truffle, one of the most famous and expensive luxury foods of France. (Truffle Markets are open in Winter!) It is also the land of foie gras-- that typical French delicacy made from fattened goose or duck liver, along with other Canard specialty dishes. Our guests have often said that the best meal they ate in the Perigord was here, in Hautefort! The wine regions of Bergerac and Bordeaux are only 1-1.5 hr away!
